Hello friends!
If there's one thing I've learned in my years as a costume designer, it's that the one time EVERYONE seems to want a costume, it's Halloween! I'm usually super busy with theatre stuff through Halloween, but not this year.
So today, I've put together 10 different ideas to get you started on a Halloween costume that goes with this crazy year. Before we get started, here's a few things you should know about me and Halloween costumes:
- I love to put together outfits on a theme, but they won't necessarily be completely screen accurate.
-I'm a big fan of DIY (obviously!!). However, these are all things you could purchase and put together
-I'm going to link to Amazon for these, but actually, I think you could find a lot of these things in your local thrift store for a lot less expensive- and bonus, you get the thrill of the hunt!
If you're just not sure how to put together the right look, I'd love to help. Just message me!
OK, without further ado, I present: 2020 Halloween costumes:
1. RBG.
The passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg rocked the Nation in September. To dress like her this year, either pair a lace collar with a black dress or graduation gown for more accuracy, pull on some glasses, and slick your hair into a no-nonsense low bun. To keep it more casual, maybe try out this sweatshirt instead.

2. Tiger King
Remember the Tiger King era of shutdown? What a time. To nail this crazy look, try out this crazy shirt and a cowboy hat to play Joe Exotic, or bring on Carole Baskin in this leopard print tunic and a flower crown.

3. Literally anyone from Schitt's Creek.
This is a RABBIT HOLE, and I already went too far. I love this show so much, I started it over this week. For simplicity's sake, I'm keeping my suggestions to the Rose family and Stevie, but there are tons of great options here.
For Alexis, keep it simple in this cute boho sundress. Add heels and a lot of jewelry!
For David, try this sweater, some black boots, white pants, and play up your brows.
For Johnny Rose, get out your suit and tie!
For Moira, who is arguably the most fun character to dress up as, I suggest: this sequin dress, a white fur jacket, black sequin beret, black tights, and platform white sandal heels. And big sunglasses.
And finally, for Stevie, keep it simple in a red flannel shirt, jeans, and leave your hair down.

4. Baby Yoda
Season 2 of The Mandolorian is set to drop right before Halloween, which makes this a great costume this Fall! For The Child, I suggest this adorable knit hat from Etsy, a green face mask, and a drape-y jacket or cardigan like this one.

5. Work From Home Nightmare:
This one can go so many different ways, and honestly, you wouldn't have to spend a DIME. For me, it's a giant fluffy bathrobe, no makeup, a coffee cup, and a messy bun. This bathrobe seems to bring the right vibe.
6. Honey Comb
OK, I'll admit this one is a stretch, but I think it's a really cute idea! Mustard or honey yellow is a VERY hot color for Fall already, and really people, we've got to save the bees. Pair something Mustard Yellow with a floral hair bandanna, add a honey serving tool as a hair stick through a bun of some sort, and use eyeliner to draw some small hexagons in a honey comb pattern on the tops of your cheek bones. I've added a "Save the Bees" tee, and a mustard overall.

7. Plague Doctor
These masks are everywhere on Amazon, as replicas of the masks worn by 14th century bubonic plague doctors. To update the look, add a black hoodie and dark jeans, or go full bore with a flat topped black hat and black belted robe.

8. Super Nurse
Who could forget how hard all our medical personnel have worked this year? Why not take a moment to celebrate them? For this fun look, don your scrubs, gloves, mask, scrub cap and your superhero cape!

9. Extreme Social Distancer
This idea is the wackiest, but also sounds fun: the Extreme Social Distancer! To create this look, you could attach pool noodles to a ball cap to keep people away from you, OR use pool noodles to create a wide circle. Once you have a circle, tie on some string and tie the string to a belt loop- and voila! Now you can go bumper walking down the street. Add a mask and gloves, and threaten to spray anyone who comes near you with lysol spray.

10. Black Panther
Losing Chadwick Boseman to cancer was the kick in the teeth no one needed this year. You can honor his memory with a simple Black Panther costume: try out this Under Armour shirt and his iconic necklace. Wakanda forever.

So there you have it! Whatever your Halloween plans, I hope you'll have fun with it this year! Want help with your costume idea? I'd love to consult with you! Just message me and I'll get back to you.
